Irish schoolchildren are taught that their climate is “mild, moist, and changeable.” While Dublin is generally not quite as rain-soaked as the west of Ireland, you should be prepared for rain at any time of the year. Your professional wardrobe will depend very much upon you individual internship. Generally however, Irish people frequently wear the same outfit more than once during the week so you will not need an extensive wardrobe.
You should plan to bring at least one smart professional outfit, preferably a suit, to wear to your interview or for more formal days at work. Otherwise assume that (for guys) khakis and a smart shirt and tie with appropriate shoes (not athletic shoes) will be acceptable for most work days; women should assume a similar level of formality and keep in mind that skirts should not be higher than just above the knee and accessories need to be low key and appropriate to an office, not a nightclub. Most organizations would be similar to examples 2 or 3 on our Dress Code Examples page. A EUSA staff member will discuss individual dress codes during your initial placement interview.
