Almendra was born in Granada, Spain to American parents, and usually has to stop to think about the answer to the question “Where are you from?” She holds a Bachelor's degree from NYU (summa cum laude) in Art History, and an MBA from the Instituto de Estudios Bursátiles, an institution associated with the Universidad Complutense of Madrid and the Madrid Stock Exchange. In addition to serving as Resident Director for a number of US university programs in Madrid, she has taught studio art to 9th and 10th graders in New York. Almendra’s professional focus is cross-cultural understanding through education and she co-authored a book commissioned by the European Union on perfecting foreign language and interpersonal skills through internships abroad. Almendra joined EUSA in 2005 and, aside from the great fit with her professional interests, particularly enjoys the “humane” atmosphere and the opportunity to develop and carry out ideas.
